Gesund bleiben während der Prüfungszeit

Exam season is upon us, and this is a time that typically brings all-night study sessions, junk food binges, and lots of stress.

How can you stay healthy without taking time away from your studies?

Many university students find themselves neglecting their health at this time of year, but that is actually one of the worst things you could do. During times of high stress such as exam season, you really should focus on your body and mind. Staying active and eating right may actually have a positive outcome on your exam performance as well as your overall health.

In fact, there are a few simple things you can do to maintain a healthy lifestyle during exam season.

If you apply these notions all year long, you may really feel the difference.

Get sweaty.

While you may be tempted to reach for the caffeine to give yourself an energy boost, you probably should consider taking walk, bike ride, or quick jog. Even just a quick power walk or short run will help wake you up and keep you energised. Having a hard time squeezing exercise in? Get a day planner and schedule it just as you would any other appointment.

Find a friend.

Do you have a study buddy? During the exam season, studying with a friend can make everything seem a lot less daunting, and the same can be said for working out. It is important to have a social life, especially when you are feeling stressed from exams. Instead of catching up over cocktails, take a fun workout class or go for a hike.

Skip the alcohol and caffeine.

It might seem like a good idea to have a few drinks this evening, but during exam season, you should probably lay off the booze. This will help you stay on track and better focused; you can always let loose after your last exam. The same goes for coffee. Limit yourself to just one cup a day because too much caffeine could lead to anxiety, poor concentration, and upset sleep patterns.

Eat right.

When you are up until the early hours of the morning studying, munching on chips and ice cream may seem like the only way to go, but believe us, this is not a good move! Your brain actually requires a good balance of nutrients, particularly omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Snack on foods such as seeds and nuts, and have a meal of oily fish such as salmon.

Remember, exam season wreaks havoc on your body and mind, so give it your best by making healthy choices. You will be sure to ace those exams and keep your health on track!
